Growing New Farmers Programs

Growing New Farmers Programs

Delaware County is a great place to start a farm.  Farm Catskills and our partner organizations want to help farmers get the resources they need to thrive here in the Catskills.

We are starting two programs to help new farmers:

  • a paid on-farm internship program providing hands-on, paid training, and an individualized learning plan for those interested in agriculture, and
  • a New Farmer Incubator, providing affordable land and shared equipment in a supportive community to new farmers.

In addition, we are working with partner organizations to provide opportunities in agriculture for youth who are interested in farming!

Send us more information about your farm plans!  Program sign-up applications for the Initiative are available for download here.

Growing New Farmers Incubator

Farm Catskills is developing a program to offer leased land and shared equipment to new farmers at affordable rental rates. There are local and regional markets for produce and other farm fresh foods waiting for the new farmer.  Farm Catskills can help farmers start their business without a large up front capital investment.

Hands on, On-farm Training

The Growing New Farmers training program provides paid on-farm internships (up to 6 months) and individualized learning plans for eligible applicants who demonstrate a commitment to agriculture and a need to further develop their own farming skills and knowledge. This is a program for people who are working towards a career or a business in farming.
